Philippine art finds a new home in Singapore Airlines’ Silver Kris Lounge
Singapore Airlines (SIA) recently unveiled a new collection of art pieces by Filipino artists that will grace the SilverKris Lounge in Manila at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.
Since it opened in 2015, the SilverKris Lounge has been an avenue that recognizes Filipino heritage and culture by showcasing artworks by prominent local artists.
“The SilverKris Lounge has been designed to provide travellers a feeling of home away from home. As such, we wanted our lounge in Manila to reflect the rich culture that the Philippines takes pride in,” said Singapore Airlines general manager Philippines Balagopal Kunduvara.
In celebration of its global 70th anniversary and the second year of the new SilverKris Lounge, SIA partnered with Salcedo Auctions to curate new artworks to be housed in the lounge for the coming months. The chosen pieces are by Melissa LaO and Spektacularis artists Lilianna Manahan, Gabriel Lichauco, and Stanley Ruiz.
Well-traveled and well-versed in the worlds of both art and architecture, Melissa’s works have been greatly inspired by her ventures to different countries. Her exposure to these different cultures has shaped the way she sees and creates art.
The works of Spektacularis artists Lilianna Manahan, Gabriel Lichauco, and Stanley Ruiz, which are also travelinspired, provide perfect additions to the collection. The artists worked with Master glassmaker Jirí Pačinek to create stunning sculptures that serve as emblems of the beauty that can be created by exploring different cultures.
By adorning the SilverKris Lounge with sights and strokes inspired by the art of travel, Singapore Airlines aims to promote local culture and talent while enhancing the experience of our passengers as they begin their journey towards a great way to fly.
The curated artworks will be exhibited at the SilverKris Lounge until May 2018 and will be available for purchase.
Singapore Airlines flies from Manila to Singapore four times daily, which conveniently connects to onward flights to the rest of the world. Passengers traveling from Cebu, Davao and Kalibo can fly to Singapore via SilkAir, which flies 12 times weekly from Cebu, nine times weekly from Davao, and three times weekly from Kalibo.
Customers can enjoy access to the lounges when they travel on Suites, First or Business Class, or are members of the PPS Club and KrisFlyer Elite Gold departing on Singapore Airlines operated flights as well as Star Alliance Gold cardholders departing on Star Alliance-operated flights.
