St. Luke’s Medical Center appoints new medical directors

The Christmas season sparkles with new beginnings for St. Luke’s Medical Center with the appointmen­t of its new medical directors effective Dec. 1. Dr. Brian Michael I. Cabral and Dr. Benjamin S. A. Campomanes Jr. take the lead as the new senior vice presidents and heads of the Medical Practice Groups and medical directors of St. Luke’s Global City and St. Luke’s Quezon City, respective­ly.

Dr. Cabral served as the assistant medical director and is the former head of the Center for Renal Diseases of St. Luke’s Global City. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of the Philippine­s and did his residency in internal medicine at Cleveland Clinic Akron General in Akron, Ohio. He went on to complete his fellowship in nephrology and hypertensi­on, as well as his fellowship in transplant nephrology at Northweste­rn University in Chicago, Illinois.

He is a recipient of the Balik Scientist Program Award given by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and currently sits on the Review Board for the Internatio­nal Nephrology and Urology Journal. Most recently, Dr. Cabral obtained his Masters in Medical Man- agement at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvan­ia.

Dr. Benjamin S. A. Campomanes Jr., on the other hand, was the assistant head for profession­al services of St. Luke’s Medical Center Global City from 2012 to 2017 prior to his new position. He was also the former chairman of the Department of ENT – Head & Neck Surgery at St. Luke’s Quezon City from 2006 to 2009, and chairman of the same Department in St. Luke’s Global City from 2012 to 2014.

He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Santo Tomas, and took his residency training in ENT – HNS in the same Institutio­n. He has a subspecial­ty in rhinology with clinical fellowship­s in Charing Cross/Royal Brompton Hospital, University of Utrecht, and University of Graz.

Before his recent appointmen­t, Dr. Campomanes was an associate professor at the University of Santo Tomas College of Medicine and Surgery, and an off-country Asia Pacific medical expert for GlaxoSmith­Kline.

With Dr. Cabral and Dr. Campomanes at the helm of each of its hospitals, St. Luke’s Medical Center is set to relentless­ly pursue further excellence, pioneer more novel innovation­s, and further maintain its status as the country’s healthcare frontrunne­r and one of the world’s best hospitals.
