More businesses are investing in the development of their human resources by providing job-related trainings, according to the results of the latest Integrated Survey on Labor and Employment by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

The 2015 round of the biennial survey of the work conditions in the country showed more than half of the establishments in the country with 20 and more workers are actively providing trainings that help workers do better in their present jobs. This is an improvement from only 45 percent of the establishments in the 2013 survey.

For the 2015 survey, there were 30,682 of such establishments nationwide, 16,271 of which were providing trainings for its employees. In 2013, there were 34,579 businesses with 20 and more workers out of which only 15, 759 invested in trainings.

“Many business operators feel that effective job training makes an important contribution to their company’s success,” the PSA said in the report.

Across industries, those engaged in the trade and repair of motor vehicles topped the number of establishments investing in human resource development (20.1 percent.) This was followed by manufacturing (17.3 percent); education except public education (14.4 percent); and accommodation and food service activities (13.8 percent); the rest had shares of less than 10 percent with the least recorded in mining and quarrying and arts, entertainment and recreation (both 0.6 percent).

In terms of actual number of workers receiving on-the-job training, however, the manufacturing sector covered the most number of workers.
