Never too late to pursue showbiz dream

- By Bot glorioso

Her name may not ring as many bells but Fe Saligumba has always been on TV, film and digital platforms, which will make one instantly say, “Ah, that’s her,” upon mention of a particular scene in either a teleserye or TVC.

Want some proof? Well, if you are tuned in to the ABS-CBN primetime series The Good Son night after night, then you have probably seen her portray as the lawyer of Mylene Dizon’s character Raquel and Joshua Garcia’s Joseph. She, too, played a teacher in A Love to Last, a doctor in Coco Martin’s top-biller Ang

Probinsyano, as an office staff in the daytime series Ikaw Lang ang Iibigin and as a cardiologist in My Dear Heart.

She also did bit roles on GMA 7’s Ika-6 na Utos, Alyas Robinhood, The Millionaire’s Wife, My Faithful Husband, Marimar and Destiny Rose. Her long list of acting projects is pretty impressive since most, if not all, of them promote family values. Same with the TVCs, they speak of quality brands.

According to Fe, her interest in acting started in her elementary years and it grew stronger when she became part of the theater guild in high school. She didn’t stop pursuing her dream even after tucking a degree in Mass Communication from St. Paul’s University in Quezon City.

“I consider the Jollibee TVC, the Kwentong Jollibee Date, as my biggest commercial (appearance) because I didn’t expect it to go viral. So, it was followed by two more episodes up- loaded on YouTube,” Fe told The STAR during her recent visit. “That Jollibee TVC was aired last Mother’s Day.”

Of course, Fe will never forget her first TVC for Quick Chow Noodles, wherein she was one of the extras. “I am thankful for that ‘raket’ because it gave me the opportunity to be in a commercial.” Another stint followed and this time, she played a lead role in a Globe Telecom TVC.

What turned her life around was her winning the Solane Mother of the Year at the Mrs. Philippines Globe in 2014. “That was the beginning of projects pouring in without me expecting that one day I would also be landing acting assignments.”

Does she have any regrets about pursuing her acting passion a bit late in life?

“None at all because I know that everybody does not stop dreaming regardless of age or stature (in life) that’s why I cannot say that I am too late to realize my showbiz dream. I am just thankful that I am now enjoying what I love to do ever since I was young,” said the now 41-year-old Fe who also revealed that not all people are blessed to be lucky in career and in love. She admitted to have gone through rough relationships. “Still, I am grateful that my children are doing okay.” She has two sons and a daughter. Meanwhile, Fe is looking forward to starting her own perfume business. She is planning to name it Lolly Belle. “I love different scents so it would be nice to put up something that interests you. In my case, from the business name alone ako na ang nag-isip na alam kong babagay sa perfume business.”

Fe also has upcoming projects that include the new digital series titled High for ABS-CBN with GirlTrends member Sam Rimando. She, too, will soon be seen in the utility advertisement of Meralco and Pharma. Her recent commercials were Globe Telecom (Hunchback Saga), Wanda Gravy, Honest Bee and Grab. By the time you read this, she will probably be busy on the set working with director Jeffrey Hidalgo for an indie film.

With Fe’s hands full of projects these days, it only proves that no one is ever too late in making a dream come true.
