Lim hopeful of Altas rebound

-

Newly appointed Perpetual Help basketball consultant Frankie Lim sees a lot of good things with the Altas since he joined the team a couple of months back.

“They’re hungry and eager to learn, that’s my first impression of the team,” said Lim, who hopes to help the Las Piñasbased school win its very first championship after steering San Beda to four titles in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011.

Lim was tapped to help boost Perpetual Help’s basketball program and back up Altas coach Nosa Omorogbe.

The Altas test their mettle in the PBA D-League, which unfurls on Jan. 18.

Perpetual, on a rebuilding process after parting ways with Nigerian star Bright Akhuetie last year, hopes to gain experience and toughen up for the next NCAA season.

“We’re still in the rebuilding process and joining the D-League will help us grow, experiencewise,” said Lim.

Without Akhuetie, who transferred to University of the Phl, Perpetual wound up joint eighth with College of St. Benilde on 4-14 (win-loss) records and eventually missed the Final Four last year after coming one game away from making the finals the previous season.

Perpetual Help will field in a crack team headed by veterans 6-11 Nigerian Prince Eze, who missed the NCAA MVP plum but earned a slot in the first Mythical Team, AJ Coronel, Kieth Pido, Jack Hao and Antonio Tamayo.

The Altas will also parade newcomers Edgar Charcos from University of the East, Krystoffe Jimenez from Far Eastern U and Anthony Peralta from Cagayan de Oro among others.

Also getting a slot in the squad are Danreb Antonio, Julius Tiburcio, Kim Aurin, Jerome Pacia, Jonmarc Precillas, Isidro Salvador, Marcus Tongco, Jonrey Villanueva, Rommel Mangalino and Carl Soriano.
