PCSO belies Cam allegations

- Ding Cervantes

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office has dismissed Sandra Cam’s grave threat accusation against PCSO officials as a “figment of (her) imagination.”

Cam, a member of the PCSO board and former jueteng whistle-blower, has accused PCSO general manager Alexander Balutan of sending a man to bomb her office along Shaw Boulevard on Dec. 29.

She also claimed she received threatening calls after she exposed the multimillion peso Christmas party of PCSO employees at a posh hotel.

The PCSO has belied her claims.

“Naubusan na siguro sya ng bala (She might have run out of bullets),” PCSO spokesperson Florante Solmerin told reporters in a forum yesterday.

“How can she even say that she would be bombed at her office, which is located just beside the office of (PCSO chairman Jose Jorge) Corpuz?” he added.

Solmerin also accused Cam of lack of professionalism as a PCSO board member.

“She… could have checked facts before she went to the media. The fact is that only P6.5 million of the P9.5 million party budget was really used for the Christmas party for 1,580 employees from all over the country, not counting three to four members of their families,” he said.

Solmerin said the remainder of the P9.5 million is being processed so that the money could be used for typhoon victims in the south.

Solmerin also said top PCSO officials are willing to listen to Cam’s gripes within the board and if the board finds no merit in her complaints, she could bring her case personally to President Duterte. –
