4 dead in Luzon road mishaps

Four persons died in separate vehicular accidents in Cagayan, Ilocos Sur, Isabela and Pangasinan on Saturday.

Among the fataliliti­es was Aries Leonillo, 18, who died after his motorcycle collided with an Army truck in Baggao, Cagayan shortly before midnight.

Leonillo was driving in Barangay San Isidro when he figured in the accident at around 11:20 p.m., according to Chief Inspector Emil Pajarillo, chief of the Baggao police.

Leonillo’s companion, a minor, was taken to the Baggao District Hospital for initial treatment and then transferre­d to the Cagayan Valley Medical Center.

Pajarillo said the victims came from a drinking session.

Truck driver Pfc Romulo Crisostomo Jr., 28, was placed under investigat­ion.

In Ilocos Sur, Elgen Baccali, 24, died while being treated at a hospital, where his companion, John Lee Centeno, 23, was also rushed after their motorcycle collided with a bus at around 11 p.m. in Barangay Sta. Lucia, Narvacan.

Bus driver Rodel de la Cruz, 43, surrendere­d to responding police officers.

In Isabela, Jojo Samut, 17, was hit by a truck as he was driving his motorcycle in Barangay Maligaya, Echague.

Samut was declared dead on arrival at the Echague District Hospital.

Police have yet to identify the truck driver, who fled after the accident.

In Pangasinan, elementary school teacher Alfredo Tempra died after his motorcycle crashed into a pile of constructi­on materials in Manaoag town.

Investigat­ion showed the victim lost control of the wheel as he was driving in Barangay Baritao.

Tempra was declared dead on arrival at the Manaoag Community Hospital due to a head fracture.
