‘Women in Ar t’ at Ar t Anton
In 1971, the American art historian Linda Nochlin published a pioneering and provocative essay titled “Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?” The article instigated a wideranging assessment of the works of women artists and the nature of greatness itself. A consequence through the decades has been the impressive close attention on women artists through full-scale museum exhibitions, such as those given to Artemisia Gentileschi, Georgia O’Keefe, Louise Bourgeois, Marina Abramovic, Berthe Morisot, Mary Cassatt, Helen Frankenthaler, Joan Mitchell, Yayoi Kusama, Eva Hesse, Cindy Sherman and Tracey Emin. In the Philippines, unanimous approbation has been accorded the excellent works of Anita Magsaysay-Ho.
Art Anton celebrates the artistry of the Filipina artist with a show titled “Women in Art,” which is on view until Feb. 15.
Participating artists are: Katrina Pallon, Eleanor Giron, Aubrey Caabay, Valen Valero, Ayka Go, Moreen Austria, Janelle Tang, Ivy Floresca, Annabelle Cadiz, Ina Jardiolin, Malyn Bonayog, Kat Malazarte, Naomi Mendoza, Michelle Lua, Iyan de Jesus, Nina Garibay, Beatrix Syjuco, and Katti Sta.
