745 cops who fought in Marawi promoted

- – Cecille Suerte Felipe

At least 745 police officers who helped liberate Marawi from Maute militants were given meritorious promotions yesterday.

Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa said these policemen braved bullets and grenades for more than five months.

Dela Rosa was seen fighting back tears during a ceremony held at Camp Crame while a video was played showing the exchange of fire between government troops and Maute militants.

“I get goose bumps. I feel for them. Those who suffered in the frontline. You can see blood, the bombings left and right. No matter how brave you are...if you are in such a situation, you have nobody to turn to except the Lord,” he said.

He said he would punch anyone who would question the promotion of the police officers.

Dela Rosa said the newly promoted police officers should serve as an inspiration to their colleagues.

“I hope you will be the idol of other police officers and not the scalawags who only want to make money,” he said.

Since he cannot promote third-level officers, Dela Rosa said he would recommend the promotion of Superintendents Danilo Bacas, Rex Malimban, Lambert Suerte, Jack Angos, Mario Mayames Jr. and Ledon Monte for leading police contingents deployed in Marawi.
