What does Rody want extended?

- By CHRISTINA MENDEZ

With no more mountains to climb, President Duterte said he is not aspiring for term extension – except maybe for his manhood.

Duterte made the remark in jest during his speech after attending the anniversary of the Bureau of Customs at the Port of Manila yesterday where he also witnessed the destruction of over P60 billion worth of smuggled luxury vehicles.

“That’s the guarantee. No dictatorships, no extension. Ready to abbreviate my term as early as you can get to it in 2020. Fine,” Duterte said.

“No more mountains to climb. No more challenges for me. I’m done.”

Duterte said God has blessed him so much for the past 72 years, over three decades of which he dedicated to politics.

If there is one thing that God has to give him, Duterte said it was the extension of his manhood.

“I prayed, ‘God, please extend…’ (but) God said to me: ‘Akala ko ayaw mo ng extension? (I thought you don’t want an extension),’” Duterte said, mimicking his makebelieve conversation.

“And the Lord said hay Duterte, go to sleep early,” he said.

With his audience breaking into laughter, Duterte repeated: Lord, what about the extension? Then He asked: how old are you? You are already 72. You better pray. No more… no more extension.”

Duterte made the joke as he earlier stressed he is not going to stop those would want to take over the government.

Duterte repeated his statement, ordering the military or the police to place him under arrest if he stays one day beyond the term allowed by the Constitution.

“If I overstay even for one day, you are supposed to oust me, place me under arrest for violat- ing the Constitution,” he said.

“And there will never be a time that I will ask you, ‘You prop me up as a dictator of this country. I have had enough politics. I have experienced all the accolades of my life,” Duterte said.

Duterte shunned calls for him to stay beyond his term of office.

He said he would not want to insult his countrymen by becoming a dictator.

Duterte pushed anew his call for federalism to put an end to the conflict in Mindanao.

“I’ll tell you what. Listen to me very carefully. The only singular and sole reason why I am hurrying up the federal setup is, I am telling you now as President that if there are (no) structural changes in Mindanao, the Moro people will go to war,” he said.

Duterte again mentioned his roots as a Maranaoan and why the Moros would want a piece of the their ancestral land.
