Despite allegations involving the killings of teenagers in police operations, the Caloocan City police came out on top in the list of most trusted police stations in Metro Manila, according to a survey conducted in 2017 by the National Police Commission (Napolcom).

In the survey conducted on Oct. 30, Nov. 2 to 3 and Nov. 6 to 10, Caloocan lawmen garnered a trust rating of 88.8 percent, higher than its 65 percent rating in 2016.

Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, however, questioned the results of the survey which he said was conducted just after the entire Caloocan police force was replaced following the killings of teenagers Kian delos Santos, Carl Angelo Arnaiz and Reynaldo de Guzman in August 2017.

He said while killings by police officers have stopped, “the killings by masked vigilantes went on unabated.”

Sought for comment, Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa said that some Caloocan policemen went overboard and committed abuses and wrongdoings.

Second on the list is Quezon City with 73.6 percent followed by Marikina City with 61.3 percent and San Juan City with 44.7 percent.

Those who got the lowest rank are the city police forces of Valenzuela and Mandaluyong, which both received a rating of 32.7 percent.

In terms of public support for the police, Caloocan lawmen also had the highest rating with 95.3 percent.

The Caloocan police also got the highest rating in terms of response and accessibility with 88.8 percent. The police force also ranked first in terms of lifestyle, moral and ethics with 88.6 percent.

Caloocan lawmen also obtained the highest rating on the respondents’ perceived level of public safety with 81.5 percent and crime reporting with 84 percent.

The survey had a total of 570 respondents, composed of 308 males and 262 females. Among the respondents are barangay officers, force multipliers, members of the business sector, students, teachers and school officials and employees, street workers and members of the religious sector.
