UE, Soka to launch 1st Ikeda symposium
The University of the East (UE), Soka University (SU) and Soka Gakkai International Philippines (SGI Phils.) are all set to launch the First Ikeda Symposium, with the theme “Harnessing the Values of Peace for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth.”
The First Ikeda Symposium, named after SGI founding president and Soka Schools system founder Daisaku Ikeda, will take place on Feb. 24, at the SGI Phils. Manila International Peace Center on Escolta Street corner Pinpin Street in Binondo, Manila.
Former Supreme Court Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr. will be the symposium’s guest of honor and inaugural speaker.
The plenary speakers are Dr. Jasmin Nario-Galace, executive director of the Center for Peace Education of Miriam College; Dr. Maria Guajardo, deputy vice president of SU and professor of SU’s Faculty of International Liberal Arts; Dr. Jun’ichi Kanzaka, director of the Soka Education Research Institute and Dean of SU’s Faculty of Economics; and Dr. Tingyang Lewis Liu, professor at National Kaohsiung Normal University.
The First Ikeda Symposium created a great opportunity and venue for discourse in realizing the sustainable development goals (SDGs), as inspired by Dr. Ikeda’s philosophy, values and teachings in line with developing a culture of peace.
