Inmate found dead in Cebu jail

An inmate was found dead at the Cebu Provincial Rehabilitation and Detention Center on Friday.

Ronel Birao, 31, was reportedly beaten up and strangled by another inmate identified as Joebert Talabroso, 31, Senior Police Officer Winston Ybañez, homicide investigator of the Cebu City police, said yesterday.

Talabroso was placed in an isolation cell following the incident.

Militant held for guns in Sarangani

GENERAL SANTOS CITY – A suspected member of a terrorist group with links to the Maute and Abu Sayyaf was arrested for illegal possession of firearms in Maasin, Sarangani on Friday.

Urbano Abdullah, 43, of the Ansar Al-Khilafa was collared in Barangay Kanalo based on information provided by local officials and barangay leaders, Chief Inspector Aldrin Gonzales, Soccsksargen police information officer, said yesterday.

A caliber .45 pistol was recovered from Abdullah, Gonzales said. – John Unson
