After closing out its first-round stint with four straight wins, including one over erstwhile unbeaten National U, red-hot Far Eastern U seeks to continue this winning trend against Ateneo today as the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball second-round action fires off at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

The Lady Tams (5-2) are the hottest team in the league right now but they still need to work on one flaw that opponents like the Lady Eagles (4-3) can take advantage of – their tendency to commit errors.

“If we can minimize our errors, then we’ll be fine,” said FEU coach George Pascua, whose team had previously given away as many as 43 points on errors.

The Lady Tams aim to complete an elims sweep against the Lady Eagles, whom they defeated on opening weekend, 19-25, 25-21, 18-25, 25-20, 15-9, in the 4 p.m. duel and break out of a two-way tie for No. 2 with idle La Salle.

The Lady Eagles look to take flight again after being grounded by a 20-25, 17-25, 26-24, 20-25 defeat to rival La Salle last Saturday.

“We gave it a fight so it wasn’t that bad, really,” said Ateneo’s Bea de Leon, who blamed their poor reception and first ball for the loss, as evidenced by the 16 aces landed by the Lady Spikers in their showdown. “You know, we’ll stick to the positives. We’ll be fine.”

Finally on the win column after upstaging Adamson and snapping a 13-game skid dating back to last year, University of the East (1-6) tries to make it back-to-back against struggling University of Santo Tomas (2-5) at 2 p.m.

“It was important for us to get that first win. Now we’ll take the next step and move forward,” said UE’s athletic director and interim coach Rod Roque.
