New Zealand 1st woman PM to speak in Ateneo forum
The first woman to be elected Prime Minister of New Zealand and the first woman administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Helen Clark, will be visiting Manila for the first time and in time for the celebration of Philippine National Women’s Month.
Hosted by the Ateneo School of Government (ASOG) in partnership with the New Zealand embassy, an “Open Forum and Discussion with Ms. Clark” will be held on March 15, 8:30 -11:30 a.m. at Escaler Hall of Ateneo De Manila University, Loyola Heights, Quezon City.
Once ranked among the 20 most powerful women leaders in the world, Clark was also considered one of the most influential women in the UN.
A champion of social issues regarding sustainability and climate change, empowerment of women, and equitable development, Clark continues to wield her influence in endeavoring for social justice.
As a pillar of the global movement for women empowerment, Clark will be sharing her insights and learnings from her term at the helm of the UNDP, as well as from her experience during the year when she stood for the position of Secretary General of the United Nations.
Prior to her role at UNDP, Clark served for nine years as Prime Minster of New Zealand, the first woman to be elected to the position. Throughout her tenure as Prime Minister, and as a member of Parliament 27 years prior, Clark advocated strongly for New Zealand’s comprehensive program on sustainability and for tackling the problems of climate change.
