A Reporter’s Notebook back-to-back special
This month, two-time New York Festivals Gold World Medalist Reporter’s Notebook launches a relevant twopart special with Pera Natin ‘to, the first part of which airs tonight after Saksi on GMA 7.
Reporter’s Notebook’s Maki Pulido and Jun Veneracion go on the ground — from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao — to physically inspect projects that were funded by the people’s money but remain unfinished, rotting and unused.
For the special’s first episode, Jun takes a closer look at three unfinished projects in Iloilo, Batangas and Cagayan de Oro.
In Lambunao, Iloilo, Jun follows the story of 14-year-old Jharryl Legada. In order to get to school, Jharryl and his schoolmates need to cross a river. But during the rainy season, the students face a tough obstacle — a deeper and raging river. Reporter’s Notebook discov- construction in 2004, the BPLC was envisioned as a livelihood initiative for residents of Batangas. However, no investor showed interest in renting commercial spaces at the livelihood center.
Meanwhile in Cagayan de Oro City, Jun investigates another mothballed project: the Jun Veneracion takes Cagayan de Oro Intera closer look at three national Convention unfinished projects in
Center. It was built in Iloilo, Batangas and Cagayan de Oro 2003 at a cost of P349M.
The convention center was meant to showcase the potential for socio-cultural and economic development in the South but it was never used.
