Casa de Memoria holds first auction for 2018
Casa de Memoria holds its first auction on March 17, at the Casa showroom on Jupiter corner Comet Street, Bel-Air, Village, Makati City. The auction is from 2 p.m. onwards.
For the auction, Casa de Memoria will feature pieces highlighting the theme, “The Age of Exploration,” a collection composed of timeless pieces of furniture, woodworks, carpets & tapestry, porcelain & ceramics, paintings, metalwork, glass and crystals, silver and ivory sculptures, including exquisite chinoiserie from the Orient and exotic pieces from Africa and the New World, that will catch the interest of Manila’s art lovers and patrons.
Some of the notable pieces include a collection highlighting the elegance and romanticism of the 19th century including an elegant 18th century Portuguese canapé made of rosewood frame and leather seats stamped with lattice, tendrils, and floral motifs; a timeless 19th century English style walnut desk with five dovetailed drawers; and a classic Italian Rococo-themed four-fold screen with hand-painted illustrations. Providing a marked juxtaposition against the earlier pieces are Neoclassical pair of wooden candleholders and a 20th century hexagonal ecru- and green-colored Arraiolos carpet.
Other pieces are a cobalt jar with mandarin gold illustrations from the Qianlong Period; a pair of Famille Verte porcelain plates from the Kangxy period; and a one-of-a kind Madonna and Child in blanc de chine where the Madonna resembles Chinese Guanyin or Japanese Kannon, the Buddhist feminine deity of compassion.
Paintings from Argentinan master Julio Silva, noted Filipino expressionist-styled painter Romeo Tabuena, well-regarded Spanish painter Abraham Levy Lima whose depiction of historical and naval battles is highly celebrated by art enthusiasts, Portuguese artist Joaquim Felix da Costa, and others are also available for auction for art enthusiast and collectors.
