Generika ekes out tough win over Smart

-

Games tomorrow 4:15 p.m. – F2 Logistics vs Cignal 7 p.m. – Petron vs Cocolife

Darlene Ramdin delivered the hits at crunch time and Generika-Ayala pounded out a tough 25-21, 25-23, 23-25, 22-25, 15-11 decision as Smart cracked under pressure in the Chooks to GoPhilippine Superliga Grand Prix at the Imus Sports Center in Cavite last night.

Ramdin, a returning import from Trinidad and Tobago, blasted in a kill from the right to give the Lifesavers a 12-10 cushion in the decider then added another attack point after an Angeli Araneta quick hit and Generika-Ayala clinched the hard-earned win on a Smart reception error.

The two-hour, nine-minute victory was actually Generika’s first after dropping its first four games while extending the Giga Hitters’ skid to five in the tournament bankrolled by Isuzu, UCPB Gen and Rebisco with ESPN5 as official broadcast partner.

Ramdin finished with 26 points, including 23 kills, while American Symone Hayden chipped in 21 markers for the Lifesavers, who survived the Giga Hitters’ fightback from 0-2 set down behind the prolific Gyselle Silva.

Silva, the hard-hitting former Cuban national player, fired 30 kills and three aces for a conference-high 35 points while Sanja Trivunovic added 22 hits for the Giga Hitters.

“I just told them not to get pressured. Just follow the instruction and treat this match as if this is just a practice game,” said Generika-Ayala coach Sherwin Meneses.
