Swatch X Paola Navone
She connects design to handcrafted art, combines the most diverse cultures from East and West in her creations, and is considered an anthropologist of objects, always driven by insatiable curiosity. At home on the entire continent and based in Milan, Paola Navone reflects impressions of the southern countries she has come to know and love in her creations.
Already her second collaboration with Swatch, she presents three models — each telling its own
story. After all, “a Swatch is like a blank sheet of white paper, it gives me endless freedom for my ideas,” says the designer. Navone finds the process fascinating, especially the act of transforming seemingly ordinary, everyday materials into something spectacular.
Tartanotto reinterprets the pattern of the robust tote bags familiar from vibrant markets around the world, in an original way. Red fish on the back of the strap — Navone’s logo and talisman — offer skillfully set accents. Cutotto evokes Chinese paper-cut silhouettes, whose innumerable threedimensional ornaments call for a visual and haptic search to discover everyday objects designed by Navone. The Art Special, Erarotto (“it was broken” in Italian), is the super-limited “reconstructed porcelain” design that is only available within the set, Treperotto — a limited and numbered edition of 333 pieces sold during the premier launch at Merci in Paris. For Swatch, these new works represent a shot of colorful and positive energy perfectly in line with the spirit of the brand as well as its passion for storytelling. It is another commitment to give artists, designers and creators a field of play and a way to bring their vision to the wrists of people all over the world.
Swatch X Paola Navone models, Tartanotto and Cutotto, are available at all Swatch Shops nationwide.
