Carbonilla, Gom-os rule Cebuana Dipolog leg

Heinz Carbonilla and Debbie Gom-os pulled off a pair of straight-set victories to dominate the Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group Tennis Championsh­ip Series in Dipolog City recently.

Carbonilla, from Maranding, Lanao del Norte, crushed Neo Maratas, 6-0, 6-0, for the boys’ 12-and-under crown then posted the same scoreline against Dwayne Daarol in the 14-U finals of the tournament backed by Dunlop Sports as the official ball.

Gom-os, a native of Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte, tripped Kristin Bandolis, 6-3, 6-3, for the girls’ 16-U diadem then toppled Mea Ranas, 6-1, 6-1, in the 18-U finals.

“We have been keeping an eye on Carbonilla as he has steadily improved over the years and keeps on winning consistent­ly. He is a real product of this grassroots tennis developmen­tal program we initiated 12 years ago,” said Jean Henri Lhuillier, president/ CEO of the sponsoring Cebuana Lhuillier Group.

Zamboanga del Sur’s Garlandson Ardiente also posted twin victories, beating Kyne Solis, 5-3, 4-0 for the 10-unisex title before teaming up with his victim to win the 10-U doubles crown.

Other winners were Zamboanga Sibugay’s Jose Pague, who defeated Nilo Ledama, 6-4, 6-1 in the boys’ 18-U finals, while Ledama trounced Stephen Guia, 6-4, 6-0, in the 16-U crown.

Bandolis, meanwhile, posted an easy 6-1, 6-1 romp over Riza Coderos in the 14-U finals while Christine Gula Gula from Dapitan City took the girls’ 12-U diadem with a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Eloisa Laputan.

The Coderos siblings, Phel Hazel and Pherl Bless, emerged as the girls’ doubles 18-U winners while Eric Tangub and Nik Isagan copped the boys’ 18-U doubles crown.

Laputan and Gula also teamed up to beat Pete Liquit and Daarol in the girls’ 14-U doubles finals.
