- Non Alquitran

A 17-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly stoning a 12-year-old boy to death while they were swimming in the Marikina River on Saturday.

The teen is in the custody of the city’s social welfare office, according to Senior Superintendent Roger Quesada, Marikina police chief.

The boy would be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, Quesada said.

Initial investigation showed that the victim – who was not identified in the police report – and his friends were swimming in the Marikina River in Barangay Malanday at about 3:10 p.m. Saturday when several teenagers started pelting them with stones.

The victim was hit in the head twice, causing him to lose consciousness and drown.

An unidentified man fished the victim’s body from the river and rushed him to the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center. The victim was pronounced dead on arrival.

Quesada said the suspect was arrested during a follow-up operation conducted.
