New Bohol airport construction on schedule — DOTr

- – Louella Desiderio

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is sticking to its target to complete the New Bohol or Panglao International Airport by June and make it fully operational by August.

DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade said the airport is 80 percent complete, with the runway fully paved and operational.

Tugade has ordered a 24/7 construction schedule to fast-track the airport’s completion even as he warned contractors that those who would not meet deadlines face sanctions.

In an earlier memorandum, the DOTr said work slippage of more than 30 days would result in non-payment, cancellation of contract, blacklisting and engagement of another contractor to finish the project.

The airport is expected to accommodate two million passengers in its opening year.
