Ex-cop held for swindling

- – Romina Cabrera, Emmanuel Tupas

A former policeman has been arrested in Marikina City for allegedly swindling a police official.

Jay-are Olaguera, 32, was nabbed during an entrapment operation at his house on Balubag street in Barangay Nangka last week.

The operation was hatched after Olaguera allegedly attempted to swindle Superintendent Roland Bulalacao, who is based at Camp Crame.

Olaguera allegedly contacted Bulalacao and introduced himself through text as Senior Superintendent Benito Ramos, his supposed upperclassman at the Philippine National Police Academy.

Olaguera, under the name of Ramos, asked Bulalacao for a favor to send him money through a remittance center.

The money was supposedly intended for a police officer known only as Chief Inspector Ortega, who is assigned in Compostela Valley.

After confirming that Olaguera was using Ramos’ name to extort money, Bulalacao sought the assistance of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Special Operations Unit.

QCPD director Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar called on other victims to press charges against the suspect.

Olaguera was first assigned with the Police Regional Office 11. He was dismissed from the police service in May 2007 after he went AWOL or absent without leave.

His wife, Escarcita, was arrested last year for the same modus. She allegedly pretended to be a a chief inspector assigned with the Taguig police.
