-

BDO Foundation recently turned over the newly rehabilitated rural health unit to the community of Capoocan in Calbayog City, Western Samar.

The Capoocan Main Health Center and Birthing Facility was among the more than 50 rural health units all over the country which BDO Foundation rehabilitated over the years with the support of BDO branches. The corporate citizenship initiative is aimed at helping the local healthcare delivery sys- tem become more responsive to the needs of patients, especially the underprivileged.

The health center’s nurses, midwives and staff, led by Calbayog City health officer Dr. Sylvia de Guzman, welcomed the reopening of their facility as this will enable them to serve their constituents efficiently. At the blessing and inauguration of Capoocan Main Health Center, they joined local government leaders led by vice mayor Diego Rivera in thanking BDO Foundation for choosing the city as a beneficiary.

A catchment population of more than 50,000 people from 21 barangays stands to benefit from the improvements in the rural health unit. Covered in the renovation are the health center’s overall structure, offices, lobby and waiting areas, dental clinic, pharmacy, delivery room, labor room, laboratory and other facilities. BDO Foundation also installed a breastfeeding station, play area for children and waiting lounge for senior citizens.
