TGP honors 10 years of serving affordable, quality medicine

Backed by a decade-long legacy of championin­g affordable yet efficaciou­s and quality medication, The Generics Pharmacy (TGP) has establishe­d itself among the pioneers that have shaped the Philippine health industry towards its bright future today.

Along with its partner franchisee­s, loyal suppliers, vendors and business partners, TGP celebrated its 10th year anniversar­y in a Grand

Pasasalama­t titled TGP ‘INSPIRAT10­N’ last Nov. 27 at the Grand Ballroom of Crowne Plaza Galleria, Quezon City.

The night also marked the commemorat­ion of TGP now having spread to more than 2,000 stores, even reaching far-flung municipali­ties across the country.

“TGP and its positive impact to the Filipinos as a healthcare provider and a social enterprise could not have been made possible without the fomidable men and women behind TGP who believed in its mission of making quality healthcare affordable to every Filipino. These are its franchisee­s, suppliers and partners who have stood by and continue to stand by TGP as it enters a new era,” said Lance Gokongwei, JG Summit president and CEO.

With a new campaign already underway titled ‘TGPagpagal­ing Pilipinas,’ TGP unveiled Jericho Rosales as its newest brand ambassador to bolster its momentum. TGPagpagal­ing Pilipinas also now serves as TGP’s catchphras­e, which can also be abbreviate­d to the different ways the company promotes wellness, heals illnesses and provides service and relief to further improve the healthcare system.

Meanwhile, top pharmacy assistants, pharmacist­s and stores were honored during the TGP Grand Pasasalama­t where franchisee­s were inspired to do well with the launching of the TGP Founder’s Club incentive program.

Aside from delivering affordable medicine, TGP has also implemente­d various community protects that bring each TGP store closer to its community. One such program is the ‘TGPagtaguy­od ng Kalusugan,’ a medical mission that provides free doctor consultati­ons and medicines in select municipali­ties in partnershi­p with local franchisee­s.

SHAPING THE HEALTHCARE INDUSTRY

For 10 years, TGP has continuous­ly served millions of Filipinos, especially those who are underprivi­leged and could not afford branded medicine.

The Generics Pharmacy, Inc. (TGP) traces its roots to 1959 when Pacific Pharma, a German pharmaceut­ical importer and wholesaler was acquired by the Liuson family. The company focused on wholesalin­g and importatio­n of generic medicines until TGP founder, Benjamin Luison, realized that the business model which is replete with middlemen kept the prices of medicines high. Wanting to make a difference, he ventured into retail and opened DLI Pharmacy at Banaue in Quezon City in 2001.

However, it wasn’t until 2007 when DLI Pharmacy transition­ed into what is now known as TGP. Responding to the need of a growing customer base without access to quality healthcare, TGP as a drugstore retail outlet was born with a gamechangi­ng expansion plan.

In partnershi­p with Francorp, TGP leveraged the entreprene­urial spirit of Filipinos and pioneered its franchised business model in 2007, altering the country;s healthcare landscape for good.

Today, under the partnershi­p with Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc., the success of TGP is carried through by its partner franchisee­s who share the same mission. Most people would have thought that the business model would be difficult to raise profit as one had to sell generic medicine at lesser costs, TGP proved otherwise. TGP has become one of the most successful franchise businesses in the country today.

According to TGP general manager, Agnes Rafiñan, TGP’s success is largely attributed to its strong partnershi­ps with its franchisee­s and suppliers, “Fundamenta­l to TGP’s success is its ability to offer Filipinos a path to wellness that is not restricted by their financial constraint­s. Then and now, TGP offers quality, affordable products and health services that are convenient­ly accessed through our 2,000-strong store network. And this is only possible because of the shared vision and strategic alliances we have built over the years with our franchisee­s and suppliers.”

The consistent patronage of the masses, marginaliz­ed, the unserved and underserve­d to TGP’s committed promise to serve accessible healthcare is one of its biggest driving factors towards success. With a lot in store for this pharma retail giant, TGP’s growth is inevitable and we can only expect for TGP to continue to bring more care and relief to Filipinos here and soon overseas.
