Pacquiao-Matthysse title clash on in KL

- By ABAC CORDERO

Manny Pacquiao’s comeback fight is “sealed, signed and delivered.”

“It’s on!” he declared on social media yesterday, referring to his title clash against WBA welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse.

“Signed, sealed, and delivered,” announced Matthysse’s promoter, Oscar dela Hoya.

“Proud to officially announce that WBA welterweight world champion @MatthysseLucas will put his title on the line against @mannypacquiao in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Saturday night July 14 (US time),” Dela Hoya said on Twitter.

It will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the personal choice of the 39-year-old Pacquiao.

Other offers came before that, from the Middle East and the United States, but Pacquiao chose the one close to home.

There’s a slight change in the date of the fight, too. From June 24 to July 8 it’s now July 15 (Manila time).

Pacquiao will challenge the boxer from Argentina for the WBA weltwerweight crown.

If successful, Pacquiao becomes world champion once more, late in his career that’s past its prime.

“I want to become world champion again,” he said.

When he climbs the ring to fight Matthysse, it will be a year and six days after his bitter loss to Jeff Horn in Brisbane.

It took Pacquiao that long to seal his comeback fight due to his busy schedule as a senator.

But it’s here, and in the coming days, the eight-division champion should plunge back into training.

“Can’t wait to challenge Lucas Matthysse for another world title on July 15 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia,” Pacquiao added.

“This is going to be a tough fight,” he also said.

Well, there’s no easy fight out there for Pacquiao, with his age and the presence of budding superstars at 147.
