MPIC unit eyes P22.5-B Cavitex extension

- By LOUELLA DESIDERIO

Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) unit Cavitex Infrastructure Corp. (CIC) is set to submit to the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) a proposal for the Segment 5 toll road covering Kawit to Rosario in Cavite of the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway (CAVITEX) within this quarter, after completing the feasibility study for the project.

“We’re done with the feasibility study. So, it will take us another month to put together the proposal to TRB,” CIC president Luigi Bautista said.

Segment 5 of CAVITEX would cover a 9.5-kilometer (km) toll road to connect Kawit to Noveleta and up to Rosario in Cavite.

Bautista said construction of the project is estimated to cost P22.5 billion.

As the firm has completed the feasibility study, he said the next step is to come up with the project information memorandum or the business proposal.

“So, this is the business proposal to TRB to request TRB that it’s a good project and if they approve, we will implement the project, in due course,” he said.

MPIC through CIC, manages the 14-km CAVITEX.

Earlier, Bautista said CIC is spending P700 million to expand and enhance the CAVITEX.

In particular, one lane would be added in each direction of the CAVITEX.

CIC would also build a flyover along the expressway so those coming from the South going to Pacific Drive would no longer have to stop at the traffic light.

The firm would also make improvements on the road surface of Pacific Drive or from R-1 to Macapagal.

MPIC operates other tollways such as the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and SubicClark-Tarlac Expressway.

At present, MPIC is building other tollway projects such as the NLEX-South Luzon Expressway Connector Road, NLEX-Harbor Link Segment 10, Cavite-Laguna Expressway, C-5 South Link, and Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway.
