Man sets neighbor’s house on fire, kills self

A 40-year-old man died after setting his neighbor’s house on fire in Tondo, Manila yesterday morning.

Arson investigators said the remains of Renato de Jesus were recovered on the second floor of the house owned by JR Ferrer along Maria Guizon street in Gagalangin.

Armed with a hammer, probers said De Jesus broke into the house of Ferrer and ordered his family not to peep through the window because somebody was after him at around 9:58 a.m.

Fearing for their safety, Ferrer rushed out with his family, leaving De Jesus inside.

After a few seconds, they saw smoke billowing from the house.

Responding firemen prevented the blaze from spreading to nearby houses.

Police said they were investigating reports that De Jesus drank poison after setting the house on fire.
