‘KamiNaman’at Art Anton
Art Anton presents “KamiNaman,” an Asian Art Exhibition which features three countries: Philippines, represented by Elmer Borlongan, Dennis Gonzales, and Reynold Dela Cruz; Malaysia, with Ng Bee, Mei Kei Ho, Louise Low, Ng Kim Heoh; and China, represented by Inza Yin.
The title is derived from the Filipino phrase signifying “It’s our turn,” drawing on our customary spirit of volunteerism. It is the root from which is derived various meaningful anagrams: in a( mother ), am a( father ),
anak (offspring), ani (harvest), mina (mine), and kainaman (goodness). More than just a collision of words within words, the title implies a gathering of other worlds working together for a common goal or good.
Various artistic styles and idioms emerge from this conflation of concerns in Asian aesthetics, ranging from expressionism, eroticism, psychic disturbance, cosmic contemplation, menace, violence, accident, danger, the boundlessness of the ego, and the exploration of the spiritual world. All these are laced with undertones of irony, tenderness, and a sense of alienation and emotional isolation, delivering a unique enlightenment of the Asian psyche.
“KamiNaman” is on view until April 19. Art Anton is at the G/F, S Maison, Conrad Hotel Manila, Marina Way, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. For inquiries, call 551-3086 or SMS 0922-3050196.
