Camille V er’ s‘ International Monologue’ at Galerie Joaquin Podium

-

For “Soliloquy,” Camille Ver communicates elements that developed from a psychological metamorphosis upon seeing news of a Paul Gaugin painting which sold for an astronomical amount at an auction titled “Nafea Faa Ipoipo? (When Will You Marry?)” A title quite intriguing for the artist herself.

Feeling the need to go deeper into this painting, Ver began to work from the familiar context of a resilient woman questioning her own resiliency. She delves into an inner dimension of her own emotions; starting from an apprehensive state of a solitary individual, then treading on to find grace in her surroundings instead of constantly looking in, and eventually eliminating discontent — ultimately mastering the art of aloneness.

Ver’s narrative in Soliloquy combines inconspicuous female figures with the characteristics of asymmetrical patterns. The conceptual visual vocabularies, which used to create her language of paintings of reserved but concurring colors (based on her artistic influences such as Mark Rothko, Paul Gaugin, and Agnes Martin), feel free. It feels like a quiet home that only exists in the mind.

“Soliloquy” opens tomorrow, 6 p.m., at Galerie Joaquin’s second branch in the new wing of The Podium Mall. The gallery is located on the third level of The Podium, ADB Avenue, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City. The show is on view until April 21.

The exhibit is a continuation of the gallery’s 15th anniversary celebration. For inquiries, call Galerie Joaquin at 634-7954 or 723-9418 or email podium.galeriejoaquin@gmail.com.
