DAVAO CITY — Davao City is gearing up to break the Guinness World Record for the longest festival buntings or banderitas.

The target is to have banderitas stretching more than 200 kilometers from Santa Cruz town in Davao del Sur down to Mati City in Davao Oriental. The activity will be participated in by at least six local government units.

Currently, the longest line of banderitas is 17,600 meters long, achieved by Poeler Einwohner und Freunde (Inhabitants and Friends of Poel) in Insel Poel,

Germany on Aug. 25, 2013.

The bid for the longest banderitas will be ceremonially launched in June, but it is also part of the 5th Visit Davao Summer Fest, which officially starts today.

This year’s summer fest is a collaboration among neighboring provinces in the region with the aim of coming up with enjoyable activities for foreign and local tourists to entice them to visit the Davao region.

The summer fest will showcase sports, arts and culture, parties and leisure plus discounts to entice more tourists to visit Davao.
