MMDA: Heavy traffic tomorrow morning

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) warned motorists of a heavy traffic on at least 11 streets during Monday morning’s rush hour due to the dry run for the 51st Asian Development Bank (ADB) Annual Meeting next month.

In an advisory, the MMDA said that there will be four scenarios that will be executed from 7 a.m. until noon, causing disruptions in the flow of traffic on at least 11 streets in the metropolis.

But the MMDA said no roads will be closed for the dry run, but told motorists to avoid the Ortigas central business district (CBD).

The MMDA said the first scenario will be held at around 8:30 a.m. from ADB headquarters at the Ortigas CBD to EDSA Shangri-La via Bank Drive, affecting Bank Drive to Saint Francis street.

A departure scenario will be practiced at around 9:15 a.m. from the EDSA Shangri-La to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 in Pasay City.

The departure scenario is expected to cause traffic along EDSA Shangri-La to Saint Francis street, Shaw Boulevard, EDSA, South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Skyway, a portion of NAIA Expressway and Imelda Avenue.

After the departure scenario, the MMDA said it will also practice the route from the NAIA terminal to Joy-Nostalg Hotel at around 10:30 a.m., affecting Imelda Avenue to NAIA Road, NAIA Expressway, Skyway, SLEX, EDSA, Guadix Drive and ADB Avenue.

From there, the MMDA will exercise a scenario wherein vehicles will enter the ADB’s main driveway at around 11:30 a.m., affecting Guadix Drive, from EDSA to ADB Drive.

The MMDA said that the roads will become one-way before the ADB convoy’s arrival while a stop-and-go scheme may be implemented on the affected routes.

The 51st Annual Meeting of the ADB will be held from May 3 to 6 and will be attended by ADB’s member economies at the the international body’s headquarters.
