MigZ Zubiri, Kevin Tan and dennis uy lead Men of influence
Cancer prevention is an important aspect of the Philippine Cancer Society (PCS). About one-third of cancer illnesses can be prevented. But they say that cancer is not a single disease but a group of related diseases. This means that a combination of factors affect the risks of or pre-disposition to cancer — genes, lifestyle, and the environment. This is why awareness and information dissemination on how to prevent cancer form part of the crusade of the PCS.
It is in this light that Consul Agnes T. Huibonhoa imbues optimism in this year’s selection of The Men of Extraordinary Influence of the Philippine Cancer Society. She enlisted Philippine society’s upcoming taipans and prominent and young achievers.
Leading the pack are the indefatiga-
ble Senator Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, a leading environmentalist and conservationist and champion of clean energy and agricultural development in the country. Kevin Tan, innovating and trailblazing the retail industry, is heir to one of the country’s biggest real estate empires. Dennis Uy is a Davao homegrown prodigy who formed a diversified, nationwide conglomerate consisting of oil distribution and retail in Phoenix Petroleum, logistics, real estate and education. Design genius Fred Yuson, the man behind CWC International Corporation, the market leader in world-class interior finishing products like Herman Miller, Vitra, Walter, Jeb and other global brands, and with extensive interest in real estate developments in Davao.
On the other side of the South, Cebu’s landmaster Jose Soberano III believes in employee satisfaction and continuous training as he develops housing estates in key areas of Visayas and Mindanao like Cebu, Bacolod, Dumaguete, Cagayan de Oro and Davao. Former broadcaster and TV host, now the dynamic sometimes controversial Presidential Communications and Operations officer Secretary Jose Martin Andanar supervises the entire network of the government’s news and information agencies, television and radio stations.
Alejandro “Kim” Atienza’s face and forecasts are as familiar to each and every TV-watching audience. Geoff Andres is the president of the country’s leading gaming complex, who rose from card dealer to managing entertainment estates such as Sands Macau and Harrah’s gaming properties such as Ak-Chin Casino Resort, Harrah’s New Orleans and Harrah’s Shreveport. Atty. Sal Panelo, the current Chief Presidential Legal Counsel, was a student activist and who handled high-profile legal cases.
The yearly selection of The Men of Influence and Best Dressed Women of the Philippines is for the benefit of the Philippine Cancer Society, the foremost crusader in fighting cancer in the Philippines. The Philippine Cancer Society is headed by Consul Helen Ong as chairperson with prime movers Consul Agnes Huibonhoa, Consul Betty Chua, Roselle Rebano, Mabel Abano, Marian Ong, Elaine Rojas Villar, Mario Katigbak and Roy Gonzales.
