300 poll bets sign peace covenant
Around 300 candidates for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in Malabon City yesterday signed a covenant for peaceful polls on May 14.
Malabon election officer Winston Gaffud said candidates from the city’s 21 barangays signed the peace covenant at the San Bartolome Parish.
Gaffud urged the candidates to deposit their registered firearms with the police to ensure a violence-free elections.
Meanwhile, police are eyeing illegal gambling as a possible motive for the killing of a candidate for barangay councilor in Pasay on Monday night.
The murder of Anthony Joseph Echavez, 36, could be linked to his alleged involvement in video karera operations or past affairs with women, city police chief Senior Superintendent Noel Flores said.
“He was known to be a womanizer and his wife knew about it,” Flores said.
Echavez was shot dead by an unidenitifed assailant on a motorcycle accompanied by a woman along Cuyegkeng street in Barangay 4.
