Manila Water bags Bulacan contract

Ayala-led Manila Water Co. Inc. has been awarded the contract to manage the bulk water supply and wastewater services in the municipali­ty of Bulakan.

In a regulatory filing yesterday, the water utility said it received the notice of award from the Bulacan Water District (BWD) for the implementa­tion of water supply system and sanitation facilities under a joint venture.

The project is estimated to cost more than P400 million over a 25-year period.

It is expected to deliver 16 million liters per day.

The contract covers the design, constructi­on, rehabilita­tion, maintenanc­e, operation, financing, expansion and management of the water supply system and sanitation facilities in Bulakan.

Manila Water and its subsidiary Manila Water Philippine Ventures Inc. will enter into an agreement with BWD to establish a joint venture company that will implement the project.

The joint venture company could serve the airport being proposed by diversifie­d conglomera­te San Miguel Corp.

Manila Water covers the east zone, which encompasse­s parts of Makati, Mandaluyon­g, Pasig, Pateros, San Juan, Taguig, Marikina, most parts of Quezon City, portions of Manila, as well as several towns in Rizal.

The company operates three other subsidiari­es – Laguna AAA Water Corp., Boracay Island Water and Clark Water Corp.
