Foton exhibits Jeepney and all-new TransVan HR at LTO motor show

-

IN CELEBRATION of its 106th anniversary, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) gathered local players in the commercial manufacturer industry to display their latest vehicles at the LTO Motor Show held from April 24 to 27 in East Avenue, Quezon City.

With the theme “Pang Masang Transportasyon, Modelong Napapanahon”, FOTON Motor Philippines, Inc. (FMPI), exhibited two of its recently launched vehicles—the FOTON Jeepney and the FOTON TransVan HR.

With a length of 19.6 ft, width of 6.5 ft, and a height of 7.2 ft, the FOTON Jeepney body was built in collaboration with Centro Manufacturing Corp. It is powered by an ISF 2.8 CRDI, four cylinder, in-line, water-cooling turbocharger Cummins engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox — the same powerplant of the FOTON Tornado 2.2C light-duty truck.

The FOTON Jeepney is designed more closely to the conventional jeepney with its side-facing passenger seats and covered open air windows. It is also provisioned for standing passengers to further maximize the seating capacity. It also features room lamps and will be installed with a working Beep card reader, employing a tap-in-tap-out scheme, the firstever programmed fare collection solution made for jeepneys in the Philippines.

“FOTON has made sure that these models comply with the standards set forth by the DOTr’s PUV Modernization Program. These vehicles are Euro IV compliant and are designed to bring ,” said FOTON Philippines president Rommel Sytin.

Another entry is the newest addition in FOTON’s passenger vehicle line, the FOTON TransVan HR.

Unlike the standard 13- and 15-seater TransVan measuring 4850 mm (L) x 2,020 mm (W) x 2,000 mm (H), the major revision of this variant is its high roof that looks like its Traveller sibling’s. The TransVan HR with 16 seats comes equipped with features such as front and rear air conditioning, entertainment system, power windows and power locks.

The TransVan HR is powered by a 2.8-liter four-cylinder in-line, turbocharged, CRDI diesel engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. It produces 225Nm of torque at 1,800-2,000 rpm. Compared to the Standard model of the TransVan, the TransVan HR is more spacious with its 5,335 mm (L) x 2, 020 mm (W), and 2,250 mm (H) total body dimension. Standard safety items include Brake Assist and EBD.

“Our dynamic participation in the government’s project has been evident since day one. We remain committed to providing safe, reliable, and multi-functional transport solutions for the benefit of more Filipino commuters, families and businesses,” Sytin closed.
