PARMS turns over recycling facility design to Parañaque City

-

The Philippine Alliance for Recycling and Materials Sustainability (PARMS) and the city government of Parañaque will address the environmental challenge of plastic waste by building and operating a sachet recycling plant in the city.

Recently, PARMS officers led by president Crispian Lao, concurrent commissioner and vice chairman of the National Solid Waste Management Commission, called on Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez in a design turnover event during which they presented the proposed design of the recycling facility. The design turnover event was held to celebrate Earth Day 2018.

PARMS had previously announced its intention to establish such a facility, and has secured a commitment from the city enabling it to proceed with its plan which will advance sustainable solid waste management.

The PARMS-Parañaque plastic recycling plant is expected to be operational within 2018, and is part of a movement to recover and transform waste into assets that communities can use.

Supporting the initiative are fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies and PARMS members CocaCola System, Liwayway Marketing Corp., Monde Nissin, Nestlé Philippines, Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines, Procter & Gamble Philippines, Unilever Philippines, and Universal Robina Corp.

PARMS is a duly registered non-stock non-profit industry organization established to bring together stakeholders in the recycling value chain, including manufacturers, industry groups, retail groups, waste consolidators and haulers, recyclers, and non-government and government entities.

The objective of PARMS is to develop and implement a holistic and comprehensive program to increase resource recovery and reduce landfill dependence towards zero waste.
