FPUA presents new mission
In 2013 super typhoon Yolanda devastated the central part of the Philippines killing more than 6,000 people. It was the strongest typhoon in history to make landfall and caused catastrophic destruction in the Visayas region.
France-Philippines United Action was created just days after Yolanda hit the Visayas in November 2013.
The French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the Philippines with the French embassy brought together French businesses to create a platform that will coordinate the rehabilitation efforts by French firms. France-Philippines United Action Foundation was born.
French businesses decided to raise and consolidate the funds into the building of housing projects for victims who had lost their homes during the typhoon.
Three housing rehabilitation projects were built in Northern Cebu and accommodate today more than 1,200 beneficiaries.
During his visit to the Philippines in 2015 French President Francois Hollande cited the France-Philippines United Action as a model for cooperation among businesses and praised for its conversion into a Foundation to allow projects with long-term planning.
In 2017 the Foundation launched an educational sponsorship program a health missions to provide access to healthcare to the FPUA communities.
Today, FPUA will continue providing for FPUA families in Northern Cebu but they also understood the need in helping companies developing sustainable and impactful projects.
Corporate responsibility is, today, at the center of any company vision. It is undeniable that social responsibility is important because it demonstrates to both employees, consumers that the company takes an interest in wider social issues that have no direct impact on profit margins.
On May 8, during a private event organized with the support of French Ambassador Nicolas Galey, FPUA held a reception to open its new chapter and present its new mission to heads of businesses present.
