Ilocos mayor, vice mayor nabbed for guns

TUGUEGARAO, Cagayan – The mayor and vice mayor of Pasuquin town in Ilocos Norte were arrested yesterday for illegal possession of firearms.

Mayor Ferdinand Aguinaldo yielded a caliber .40 pistol, a caliber .45 pistol and boxes of bullets during a raid on his house in Barangay Poblacion 1, according to a report received by Chief Superinten­dent Romulo Sapitula, Ilocos region police director.

Police said a caliber .45 pistol and various types of ammunition were also recovered during raid on the house of Aguinaldo’s brother Vice Mayor Pedro Rex in Barangay Davila.

Sapitula said Aguinaldo is among local officials on President Duterte’s narco list.

Several guns were also recovered when police officers raided the houses of Reynante Failano, a candidate for councilman in Barangay Nagsanga; Lorento Menor; Marcus Agudelo, chairman of Barangay Ngabangab, and Fidel, also surnamed Agudelo. The suspects are known allies of Aguinaldo.

Laoag City Regional Trial Court Judge Francisco Quilala issued the search warrants.
