Denmark keen on Build Build Build

- By RICHMOND MERCURIO

Denmark has expressed strong interest to take part in the government’s Build Build Build program, the Department of Trade and Industry said.

Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez recently met with his Danish counterpart, Minister for Industry, Business and Financial Affairs Brian Mikkelse, to discuss trade and investment opportunities between the Philippines and Denmark, especially concerning the government’s massive infrastructure program.

Mikkelsen lauded the country’s economic growth and said they “want to be part of the development happening in Philippines.”

He expressed interest in bringing construction firms to participate in the Build Build Build infrastructure program.

Mikkelsen said the European Union (EU) member state is also keen on investing in the country’s renew- able energy and affordable medicine sectors.

Lopez encouraged Danish firms to offer insights in solving the country’s problems, saying that “unsolicited proposals are welcome.”

“The current economic growth momentum, rating upgrades and aggressive infrastructure programs offer a lot of business opportunities for foreign investors particularly with technology-oriented services and systems,” Lopez said.

DTI is planning a Nordic culinary tour this year to promote Filipino cuisine to Denmark and its neighboring countries.

Trade Undersecretary Nora Terrado said the agency intends to conduct a trade roadshow in Denmark next year to promote trade and investments in general.

The Philippines currently enjoys GSP+ privileges with the EU and hopes to elevate this to a free trade agreement soon.
