‘The Truth Behind lies: social opium’ at galerie anna

-

In an age of fake news, people have come to worship falsehood and let truth be damned.

This is the unsettling concept behind Galerie Anna’s presentation of “The Truth Behind Lies: Social Opium,” a revelation behind the works of Jay Ejanda, Jun Impas, and Otto Neri.

The metaphor of opium, an addictive drug made from the juice of the opium poppy, is the impelling impetus for their works, ranging in their individual styles of realism, covering a broad spectrum of contemporary issues, topics, and perspectives affecting our daily lives — from the selfdeception of cosmetic surgery and media endorsements of celebrities that enslave us, to an ever-escalating re-interpretation of our country’s past and present.

“The Truth Behind Lies: Social Opium” runs until June 2.

Galerie Anna is at the 4/L, The Artwalk, SM Megamall A, Mandaluyong City. For inquiries, call 4702511 or SMS 0939-9127930.
