Tow firm worker beats up truck driver

- – Robertzon Ramirez

A towing firm operator was seen in a viral video beating a truck driver in Makati City Thursday afternoon.

Truck driver Freddie Francisco, in a Facebook post, said he was at a gasoline station along Osmeña Highway when the still unidentified operator wanted to tow his vehicle.

Francisco said that one of the operators beat him up and smashed his vehicle’s window after he refused to be towed.

“They became angry because I took a video… they are so violent,” he said in Filipino.

Francisco’s video was viewed more than 711,000 times and was shared 23,600 times as of yesterday afternoon. It gathered 3,200 reactions from the netizens who were able to watch the video.

The Makati Action Center (MAC) said the operation of the towing company is considered illegal as it was done without any representative from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

Bong Nebrija, MMDA operations officer, said that the tow truck, allegedly owned by a retired police, was already impounded in one of their operations with the Highway Patrol Group in 2017.

Nebrija said at least three or four of the firm’s seven tow trucks were impounded by the MMDA last year.

The MAC said the towing firm caught in the video is not registered with the city government.
