3 MPD cops charged for extortion
Three Manila Police District (MPD) policemen were charged with robbery-extortion, illegal arrest and arbitrary detention before the city prosecutor’s office yesterday.
Police Officers 1 Radam Manglicmot, Edmar Cayanan and Jeff Pee Calaguas, all from the MPD Station 5’s anti-crime unit, were accused of impersonating Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency personnel, arresting eight persons on drug charges and trying to extort P300,000 from one of the persons they arrested on Tuesday.
Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar, National Capital Region Police Office director, yesterday apologized for his outburst. He said he did not want to hurt the policemen when he struck them in front of members of media.
