Provincial bus operations restricted along EDSA

- Ghio Ong

Starting July 15, provincial buses will be prohibited from traversing EDSA during rush hours on weekdays.

In a resolution signed by the 17 mayors in Metro Manila on June 21, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said northbound and southbound provincial buses would be restricted from plying EDSA during certain hours from Monday to Friday.

The MMDA said buses are banned from passing through EDSA from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The measure aims to reduce the number of buses along the busiest thoroughfare in Metro Manila by 2,000 daily.

Violators will be fined P2,000 on top of other traffic violations, the MMDA said.

Buses will be exempted from the number-coding scheme.

The MMDA said the move was in anticipation of monstrous traffic jams that would be caused by road projects in the metropolis this month. –
