Phl joins Int’l Day of Yoga celebrations
To commemorate the International Day of Yoga 2018, the embassy of India in partnership with the National Youth Commission (NYC) celebrated the fourth IDY on June 17, at the Ayala Mall’s South Park that attracted hundreds of participants from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and youth volunteers.
With a view to tap the energy of the youth in the Philippines, the embassy had entered into an agreement with the NYC. Similar celebrations were also held in different provinces including Davao and Baguio City.
As a run up to the main event several yoga workshops were held in collaboration with universities, village associations and various companies in the National Capital Region.
The fourth IDY celebrations at Ayala Mall, South Park was formally opened by NYC Assistant Secretary and Commissioner Ronald Cardema, Christine May Abas, chairman for youth and sports committee and chairman of Barangay Alabang, and Dr. Faith Alberto, director for health promotion, Department of Health (DOH) and representatives from the PNP.
Ambassador Jaideep Mazumdar thanked the NYC, PNP and DOH for their contribution to popularize yoga, which serves as a preventive health care system by reducing lifestyle diseases.
Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano also supported the IDY 2018 celebrations by holding a yoga event at Taguig satellite office in BGC on June 16. Cayetano joined the diplomatic community and city officials in a session comprising of yoga exercises and meditation.
