Wanggo Gallaga heads advanced screenwriting course

-

It is a long and tedious road to craft your own screenplay — from conceptualizing the story to pitching it to the industry professionals.

The School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPaCE) at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) will help hasten all that as it offers the 2018 run of its Certificate Course in Advanced Screenwriting to be held on four Saturdays of July.

In the module, participants will discover their personal convictions and artistic statements, translate it into narrative structure and cinematic language, then weave it within a three-act film. The course will help the students in the creation of elements such as the plot, setting and the personalities of the characters, and will nurture them on how to maximize and defend the use of symbolisms and metaphorical approaches.

Attendees will also be engaged in various hands-on workshop sessions, which include brainstorming and breathing life to the idea, writing the story, giving life to the personalities and settling on the conclusion of their tales. They will likewise be trained on how to package their short films. The classes will be spearheaded by writer

Wanggo Gallaga (photo), who belongs to a family of renowned directors. The man behind the screenplays of Sonata (2013) and T’yanak (2014), and the web series Hanging Out (2017), Gallaga was formerly a reviewer for InterAksyon and Juice.ph, editor at Chalk Magazine and Metro Society magazine, and a segment producer for TXtube under GMA New Media. He is currently a film reviewer for ClickTheCity.

The four-day sessions are scheduled on July 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 12 to 6 p.m. Fee of the entire program is P15,995. For more details, call Lynn Garcia or Marlon Eusebio at 230-5100 local 3802, 400-5425 and 400-7405, or e-mail space@benilde.edu.ph.

SpaCE is located at the Fourth Floor, School of Design and Arts Campus, 950 Pablo Ocampo (Vito Cruz) Street, Malate, Manila.
