Makati cop, 4 others nabbed for kidnapping
A traffic investigator of the Makati City police and his four companions were arrested in an entrapment operation on Thursday for allegedly kidnapping a Chinese and holding him for ransom.
Police Officer 2 Jaycee Abana of the Makati police’s Vehicular Traffic Investigation Unit (VTIU) was arrested after a Chinese filed a complaint against him, city police chief Senior Superintendent Rogelio Simon said.
Simon identified Abana’s alleged accomplices as Mocapundag brothers Mohalem, Muhamad and Mohalil and Wenceslao Sevellejo.
Abana and the other suspects allegedly stopped Changbo Fang and Fang Zhang Bao at gunpoint along Nicanor Garcia street at around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, National Capital Regional Police Office director Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar said.
Zhang ran away, leaving Fang behind. Fang was allegedly illegally detained by the police before they contacted his parents to demand ransom.
Eleazar said Abana allegedly demanded P1 million from Fang’s family but settled for P80,000.
Eleazar said that the five suspects were detained at the Makati City police station for robbery and kidnapping while Chief Inspector Ferdinand Satorre, who heads the VTIU, was relieved from his post pending investigation of the case.
The arrests came on the heels of four Makati police officers being removed from their post for not following proper protocols in stripsearching a female drug suspect.
