Mariella laurel in Binondo musical

Mariella Laurel (photo) is in the cast of Binondo: A Tsinoy Musical as Jasmine, a 24year-old girl from Mainland China who is betrothed to a Chinese man chosen for her by her family. Jasmine comes from a prominent Communist family yet her character in the story symbolizes pure, unselfish love.

The cast also includes Shiela Valderrama-Martinez, Floyd Tena, David Ezra, Arman Ferrer, Carla Guevarra-Laforteza, Lorenz Martinez, Ima Castro and Jenny Villegas.

‘I feel honored to be working with great actors,’ said Mariella who appears only in the opening and closing productions numbers in the musical directed by Joel Lamangan, with music by Von de Guzman and script by Ricky Lee. ‘They all have their processes and theater discipline and that inspires and teaches me to continue to work harder.’

Binondo’s last two playdates are today (3 p.m. and 8 p.m.) and tomorrow (July 8, 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.) at the Theatre at Solaire.
