BAIPHIL’s Special Projects Committee embarks on various CSR projects
The Special Projects Committee (SPC) is the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of theBankers Institute of the Philippines (BAIPHIL). It embarks on projects that focus on education, health, environment, and the marginalized sectors of society.
BAIPHIL, through the SPC, supports three underprivileged high school students with its scholarship program; conducts, in partnership with Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas , Financial Education and Values Formation Programs for the teachers and parents of public school children, and for artisans of various urban poor communities from Metro Manila who are members of Rags2Riches, Inc. To date, 75 Financial Education Programs (FEPs) have been conducted for 8,660 participants. To raise funds for the FEP, the SPC has held auctions, Festival of Bank Chorale and Street Dance Challenge competitions among member institutions.
The SPC also organizes an annual Medical, Dental and Surgical Mission in partnership with SM Foundation, local government units (LGUs) and community leaders in economically challenged communities. It also arranges heartwarming visits and gift-giving activities to bring cheer to the elderly, orphans, terminally-ill children, youth who are in conflict with the law, and residents of the Home for the Blind.
To further promote environmental causes and CSR to the financial community, the SPC has launched the Green Bank Challenge in 2013 as well as the Search for the Best Corporate Social Responsibility Project in 2015 and 2017. These enabled member institutions to showcase their best practices in saving the environment and their best CSR projects, which in turn, inspired others to do the same. BAIPHIL, through the SPC, went beyond banking and touched the lives of thousands of individuals, members and non-members alike.
The SPC is chaired by Marilen Ruiz with Irene Arroyo, chief adviser to the board and former BAIPHIL president, as director-in-charge.
