Lady Falcons off to flying start in PVL

- By KRISTINA VILLANUEVA

Adamson University smothered University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, 25-19, 25-18, 25-16 in an auspicious start in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference yesterday at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

Eli Soyud led the Lady Falcons’ assault with 10 hits, four blocks and three aces for 17 points, Chiara Permentilla smacked eight spikes, guarded the net with four blocks and also had an ace for 13 markers while Bernadette Flora scored 12.

Despite the opening day victory, AdU coach Air Padda believes there is still room for improvement for the squad with some adjusting to key roles following the loss of Mylene Paat, Jema Galanza and Fhen Emnas due to graduation.

“You could definitely tell it was our first game. It was really sloppy, our defense was all over the place. They didn’t play to my expectations but I am thankful we got the win,” said Padda.

“Coming off last season, without Mylene, Jema and Fhen, there are still good pieces in our team,” Padda added.

Lady Falcons prized recruit Trisha Genesis is out for at least a week after being diagnosed with shingles last Thursday while Joy Dacoron also missed the match as she is on vacation following her stint with BanKo-Perlas last conference.

Blanca Tripoli was the lone Lady Altas in double figures with 12 points.

Meanwhile, the match between reigning titlist National University and San Beda was cancelled following the Lady Bulldogs’ withdrawal from this year’s edition of the collegiate conference.

Sports Vision president Ricky Palou said NU coach Babes Castillo called him yesterday morning to inform him of the team’s decision to pull out.

Palou said Castillo cited the Lady Bulldogs’ unreadiness as they needed time to work together with some of their players having to suit up for different teams last conference.
